Everything looks better with a little sparkle. From home decor to formal wear, glitter is an easy way to add a little glam, especially on tips. However, taking off glitter polish can be a frustrating time suck that may deter your feelings toward wearing any shimmery lacquer in the future. Don’t toss your favorite glitter-packed shades just yet! Read on to find out quick, easy and hassle-free ways to remove glitter polish.
All About That Base
As the saying goes, work smarter, not harder, especially when it comes to polish removal. Before applying your glitter of choice, apply a peel-off base coat. The base coat will protect the natural nail and allow you to simply peel off your nail color when you’re ready to remove. Bonus: You can use this base coat under dark shades to prevent staining.
The Right Buff
If you’re looking to get more than 2-3 days of wear out of your nail color, a peel-off base coat isn’t an option, meaning you’ll have to resort to traditional removal instead. Before whipping out the polish remover, use a file to buff off the top layer of lacquer to allow the remover to penetrate the polish faster.
Soaking your nails in a bowl of acetone can be extremely drying. To minimize your skin’s contact with the polish remover, opt for nail wraps instead. To DIY, cut 10 strips of aluminum foil, then saturate 10 cotton pads with remover and place the pads in the center of the foil strips. Place your fingernail on top of the cotton pad, then wrap the foil around the nail to secure it in place. Or, to save yourself some prep time, opt for ready-made nail wraps.
Sit & Soak
Unless you want your polish removal sesh to double as an arm workout, do not rub your nails with a cotton pad. Allow nails to soak for 8-10 minutes in the nail wrap to help the polish remover do its job, then remove the wrap and use a cotton pad to take off the rest of the product. The remaining glitter should come off super easy--no harsh rubbing or scraping required!
