Waiting for polish to dry can be even more painful than waiting for the timer to go off on the microwave when you’re hungry. But, much like it’s essential to allow food to thoroughly cook, it’s important to give your nails enough time to dry in between coats. So how long exactly should you wait? Here, we reveal the magic length of dry time to achieve pro results.
According to Essie, two minutes is the ideal amount of time you should allow nails to dry in between coats. Any shorter length of time and your nails will be more susceptible to denting or smudging, resulting in an uneven polish application and chipping. Make sure you apply base coat, lacquer and top coat in even strokes to prevent applying too much product. Running short on patience? While it’s not advised, there are a couple of ways to speed up dry time: Hold your nails in front of a small fan after each coat or try applying polish outside where the sun can help to dry your tips a little faster.
