New York Fashion Week is always pushing boundaries, and while we love to watch designers’ latest creations on the runways, the clothes are not always the most wearable. The same rings true for runway nail art. Whether it’s leg-grazing tassels or piled-on bling, the avant-garde designs aren’t practical for every day. Luckily, the Autumn/Winter 2018 runways featured plenty of understated nail looks that are both on-trend and office-appropriate. Check out our favorite takes on the French manicure that is anything but boring.
Trend: Reverse French
Spotted at…Tom Ford
A hybrid of a French manicure and a nude nail, this subtle design is a fresh way to rock nearly-naked tips. To create the look, nail artist Mei Kawajiri (@nailsbymei) used flesh-tone Tom Ford shades to create a half-moon manicure that featured white at the cuticle and a nude tip.
Trend: Glitter French
Spotted at…Cushnie et Ochs
Nail artist Julie Kandalec (@julieknailsnyc) gave nude tips a touch of decadent glam at the Cushnie et Ochs show. After varnishing models’ tips with Essie Skinny Dip, she dabbed Essie Summit of Style along the free edge and used a brush to drag it toward the cuticle.
Trend: Swoop Moon
Spotted at….Bibhu Mohapatra
A simple “swoop” of polish added modern flair to models’ nails at the Bibu Mohapatra show. To create the look, nail artist Miss Pop (@misspopnails) painted a side half moon using Zoya Aspen, then added a surprising final touch: a large rhinestone just below the cuticle.
