June 1st was National Nail Polish Day and as a celebration Essie had held a contest to give one lucky winner the chance to create their own bespoke nail polish. If you missed this but are still looking for a little mani inspiration, check out the beautiful green toned mani that Celebrity Manicurist Emi Kudo created on the adorable Black-ish and Grown-ish star, Yara Shahidi.
Step 1: To start, I prepped Yara’s nails with essie’s first base base coat. to protect and prevent chipping.
Step 2: Next, one drop of Yara’s essie polish selections were placed on a makeup palette (you can also use a dish!). For this particular look, Yara really wanted green, sporty nail art to play off of her Tory Burch track suit jacket, so we used spills of essie’s chillato, mojito madness and mint candy apple (one of Yara’s main go-tos!) to create.
Step 3: Using a thin nail art brush, I dipped into one of the colors to make an outline of a circle on the nail. Once the outline was made, I switched back to the original essie brush and filled inside the circle.
Step 4: Wait a few minutes for the color to dry, then repeat the same process alternating colors from outside to inside. Clean any cuticles or edges up with a thin corrector brush and acetone!
Step 5: The look was finished with a coat of essie’s gel.setter top coat to lock-in color and give an added gel-like shine.
